Demolition Has Started On The Daily Courier S Former Home In Downtown Kelowna Kelowna News

The former home of The Daily Courier is scheduled to be gone by the end of the long weekend. West Kelowna’s T-Rex Excavating started bringing down the old newspaper building at 7:01 a.m. on Friday. It will demolish the warehouse on the north end of the property by the end of Friday and then, after going through the rubble on Saturday, will commence on the office part of the property on Sunday. T-Rex project manager Troy Grover said the whole building, which is located at 550 Doyle Ave. in downtown Kelowna, should be razed by Tuesday. He and his crew will be sifting through what’s left to ensure as many of the materials as possible are recycled. The 30,000 square-foot building was constructed in 1974 and was home to the newspaper’s operations until it was sold two years ago. The Daily Courier’s new office is on Leckie Road. The property, which is on the northeast corner of Doyle Avenue and St. Paul Street, is on target to become home to three towers, including a 46-storey building, that will become UBC Okanagan’s downtown campus.
